ESTONIA EXPANDS DIGITAL GOVERNANCE EXPERTISE TO THE PACIFIC REGION

·

Estonia, a global frontrunner in digital governance, is extending its expertise to support the Pacific region’s digital journey. With groundbreaking initiatives such as e-Residency, digital ID cards, and online voting, Estonia has built a secure, citizen-focused ecosystem that has set a new standard for modern governance. Its approach has empowered citizens, reduced government costs, and enhanced transparency and efficiency across all sectors.

In a recent meeting, UN Resident Coordinator Dirk Wagener and Estonia’s Ambassador-designate to Fiji, Mr. Jaan Reinhold, discussed how Estonia’s digital solutions can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Pacific. The conversation highlighted areas such as digital capacity building, institutional reform, and improving access to public services through technology.

Both parties expressed strong interest in expanding this partnership under SDG 17, which emphasizes global cooperation for sustainable development. They agreed that Estonia’s experience could play a key role in fostering innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth across small island developing states in the Pacific.

As one of the region’s emerging digital leaders, Vanuatu is well-positioned to collaborate with Estonia in advancing its digital transformation agenda. With ongoing efforts to digitize public services and enhance ICT infrastructure, Vanuatu could greatly benefit from Estonia’s proven digital governance model to improve service delivery, strengthen institutions, and accelerate progress toward national and regional development goals.
