Is Vanuatu Moving Forward? A Citizen’s Check on the 100-Day Plan

·

The other night, I came across a heartfelt post from a concerned citizen in a local Yumi Toktok Stret group. His words echoed what many of us feel as we go about our daily struggles:

“Mid-year is almost here.
We have some issues.
I don’t know if the GOVERNMENT can fix them…”

He went on to list real, everyday concerns—about Air Vanuatu, corruption, water shortages, poor roads, schools needing upgrades, clinics not improving, and the challenges mothers face when travelling with newborns because planes don’t reach many islands anymore.

It was an honest, raw post reflecting what many of us think but often don’t say aloud.

● Air Vanuatu issue
● Senior officials travelling to Fiji
● Government not publishing important information sometimes
● Corruption increasing in Santo and Port Vila
● Chinese finding loopholes in government agreements
● Roads still not fixed
● Clinics around Vanuatu still not upgraded
● Luganville still facing water issues
● Planes not going to most islands, mothers with newborns have to use ships
● Government still experimenting with technical issues
● Government schools need upgrades
● Government must deliver services to islands facing water and food issues
● Minister of Internal Affairs should travel around Vanuatu to see what is happening (not focus too much on RSE in Australia/NZ)”

The reality is, no one really knows the answers to these concerns.
There is a government dashboard tracking the 100-Day Plan set up after the by-election, but many people find it difficult to read. I used AI to break it down clearly for everyone.

🗣️ Conclusion

The Vanuatu Government’s 100-Day Plan is 53% complete and aims for 80% by June 2025. Progress is clear in:
✅ Road and infrastructure projects
✅ Health equipment delivery
✅ Economic support for SMEs
✅ School repairs

However, major issues remain, including:
⚠️ Full Air Vanuatu service restoration
⚠️ Water supply challenges
⚠️ Anti-corruption and accountability improvements
⚠️ Consistent provincial service delivery

The government is moving, but it is not fast enough for many of us facing these challenges daily.
