Santo East Road Is Now Called Rialuth Highway

·

The Vanuatu Government travelled an extra 10km past the famous Port Olry village to reach the gravesite of one of Vanuatu’s sharp-witted politicians and former Prime Minister, Rialuth Serge Vohor, who passed away in November 2024.

The late leader was laid to rest in his humble home at Cape Quiros, the northernmost part of East Santo.

Prime Minister Jotham Napat spoke warmly about his time serving under the former PM during the mid-2000s, describing him as “one of a kind,” with a legacy seen in the development of Vanuatu, especially the East Coast Road built under the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA). This 56km tar-sealed stretch connects Luganville to Port Olry and has transformed life for many communities along Santo’s east coast.

Immediately after the visit, the Government officially declared the road as “Rialuth Highway” in honor of the late Prime Minister’s vision and contribution to nation-building.

The road he once fought to build now carries his name.
