Z1 Band Sets a New Standard for Live Music in Vanuatu at FruitFest 2025

·

PORT VILA – One of the most talked-about highlights of FruitFest 2025 has been the incredible performances by the Z1 Band, whose musicians are backing every national and international artist throughout the three-day festival at Fatumaru Bay.

Unlike most touring artists who perform over pre-recorded soundtracks, this year’s FruitFest is doing things differently — with Z1 Band performing live for all acts, from Vanuatu stars Vanessa Quai and Sed to international performers Onetox, Bibao, Blanc.O, and Ksie from the Solomon Islands. The result? A dynamic blend of sounds that’s expanding Vanuatu’s musical horizons far beyond reggae — the genre the country is best known for.

The secret behind Z1’s versatility lies in their roots. Many of its members are VMF (Vanuatu Mobile Force) musicians and part of the VMF Brass Band, meaning they read, write, and live music every day. Their experience and discipline bring a professional edge to every performance, seamlessly adapting to any rhythm — whether pop, hip-hop, R&B, or traditional island music.

Last night’s opening performance with Sed and the legendary Vanessa Quai was a clear showcase of that talent. The stage at Fatumaru Bay came alive with Richard commanding the keys, Joseph driving the rhythm on drums, Barret (Naio) laying down solid bass lines, Floyd on lead guitar with smooth transitions, and Vuti on keyboards.

For many, it’s the artists who take the spotlight — but this week at FruitFest 2025, it’s also about celebrating the musicians behind the magic. Z1 Band’s ability to elevate every performance is a reminder that Vanuatu’s music scene is evolving — rooted in culture but open to the world.

Tonight’s lineup at Fatumaru Bay will feature Ksie and Bibao, followed by the crowd-favorite Onetox and Blanc.O on Friday — all backed by the unmatched sound of Z1 Band.
